Praying is to have a relationship with God, prayer is like a conversation with God.

The bible says in Philippians 4:6-7 that The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

We have to remember that in John 15:5 Jesus reminds us that "I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

Main Theme: Bible translation plays a crucial role in Mission.
“Our first task is to translate the Bible and to train Christians to read and interpret the Scriptures in their own cultural context.” 1
“Without a credible Bible, missions are worth very little. Missions are mostly the history of the impact of the Bible, not preaching.”

God wants all the people of the world to hear his words. In Acts 2:7-11,
7Utterly amazed, they asked: "Are not all these men who are speaking Galileans? 8Then how is it that each of us hears them in his own native language? 9Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome 11 (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs-we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!"

Opening question: What is the most important message of the Bible?

Why Translate the Bible?
- It is the key to evangelism.
- It is the basis of discipleship.
- It is indispensable to church planting. (Read below, the testimony of a Transformed Community, the Daw of Brazil)

Testimony of a Transformed Community, Daw of Brazil
Less than a generation ago the Daw of Northwestern Brazil were nearing extinction. They were persecuted by other indigenous groups, driven from their land, and reduced to practical slavery by outsiders who took advantage of them. Overcome by hopelessness, the Daw turned to drink; every single man and woman abused alcohol. They were homeless and lived on the streets. Because of their lifestyle, the infant mortality rate was almost 100%.
In 1985 a missionary with one of Wycliffe Bible Transaltor’s partners went to work with the Daw. With the help of churches in Brasilia he purchased land so the Daw could get away from their alcoholic lifestyle in the city. They built houses, planted fields, and turned their lives around.
Today, the Daw are thriving and growing. Infant mortality is virtually nonexistent.. Only 3 still struggle with alcohol. More than half are now baptized believers. One Daw man said, “Now we have homes, we have families, we have fields, we have hope….all because of God.” Everyone in the region is aware of the transformation. When approached for permission to work among another group, an official said; “If you’ll do what you did for the Daw, you can work anywhere you want.”
As you look at all the children in the village shown below, it was almost overwhelming to realize that they literally owed their lives to the gospel. The Daw are a dramatic demonstration of a people who were “rescued...from the dominion of darkness and brought...into the kingdom of the Son he loves” (Colossians 1:13 NIV).

Concluding activity:
We attempted to translate selected bible verses into Thai. Collectively, we spent quite a long time interpreting the foreign texts. However, despite the amount of time we used, we were still able to complete the challenge (i.e. decipher the meaning of a bible verse into English from Thai). Through this first-hand experience, we realised how difficult Bible translation really is! Bible translators have to go through endless rounds of corrections and editing, as well as working together closely to be able to finally reach a correct interpretation of a single bible verse in a completely new language! How tedious! But Praise the Lord! Because these people are willling to go through all that trouble just so that more lives will be saved through Christ, through the spreading and understanding of the Good News.
Let us keep Bible translators in our prayers, and all the people who do not have the Bible written in their language. May God give the bible translators wisdom and knowledge. May He also continue to draw in more translators and interpretors into this bible-translation ministry. Please continue to support them in prayer and in love!

Firstly, we'll be leading praise for about 15 minutes, after which, we'll lead games for about 20 minutes and lastly, we'll be doing a skit about a father's love for his child which will last for another 20 minutes.

As for the sequence of the skit, ive already sent it to main cast of the skit (:

Also, we'll be having a full run practice before the worship starts. As for the time and venue to meet, it has yet to be confirmed but do check your emails regulary (:

Prayer requests -
Elaine is having a really bad migraine again (prolonged headache) and she will be taking her first AP exam on 4/5/10 (statistics) and 5/5/10, on calculus. Please keep her in prayer for this big exam.

Gayan will be teaching dance on sundays 12pm to 1pm thus she would not be able to attend fellowship anymore for these few months. please keep her in prayer. Pray gayan to be able to maintain a close relationship with God despite her busy schedule.

Kinhang was sick last sunday and thus could not attend fellowship. please keep him in prayer, pray for him to get well soon and take care of health in army.

Junting will be having Taekwondo grading this saturday and sunday and will not be able to join us this week. PLease keep him in prayer for his grading, pray that he'll get double promotion LOL (:

1 timothy 1: 12-20

I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me faithful, appointing me to his service. Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief. The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.

Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst. But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his unlimited patience as an example for those who would believe on him and receive eternal life. Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Timothy, my son, I give you this instruction in keeping with the prophecies once made about you, so that by following them you may fight the good fight, holding on to faith and a good conscience. Some have rejected these and so have shipwrecked their faith. 20Among them are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan to be taught not to blaspheme.

Paul changed from a prosecutor,violent man and a blasphemer to someone who had faith, love and served God faithfully.
Paul was thankful to god because though paul was the worst of sinners, God still showed mercy to Paul, appointing Paul as his faithful servant.
At the same time, Paul reminds us that its important to withstand to false teachings with faith and a good conscience, dont end up like Hymenaeus and Alexander who have shipwrecked their faith.

Reflections: Questions to reflect and ponder about..
What about us?
-Have we changed after accepting christ as our savior?
-How can we practically use our story or changes in our live as a way to share the gospel?
-Think about how we can change to become a blessing to non-believers

Should we also always remember to thank Jesus for coming to the world to save us sinners?

What are the biggest barriers in our lives that may have the potential to shipwreck our faith?
We'll need to pray to God about them and seek God for help!

Conclusions
God always( most of the time) involves his People
God always involve people to ACT
God always provides opportunities for people to respond through our actions

Therefore:
God wants to involve each and every one of us to start in actions
No matter how insignificant the act is
To take the first step of actions and God will change the situations through our actions.

For now, what we all can do is to start praying more about the world around us, for example, for the Bangladesh villagers in the video.
We'll also need to pray for ourselves, to ask God what our first step should be, to fulfill our role in his kingdom.(:

Karen: Hey guys,

I would like to share about the sermon by Rev Chan Fong today. It'll be his last sermon as the official senior rev of Grace Church. It's sad... but I guess God has His timing... and his sermon has moved me in many many ways.

ALL OF US HAVE WOUNDS YET TO BE HEALED.

Indeed. As much as it is not visible from the exterior, we have wounds that are yet to be healed. There are harsh or unfair words that have have pierced us so deeply that we will remember for the rest of our lives. There are so many things that can make us bitter and reluctant to dig into the past. But God says, wounds are there, and only I can heal.

REMEMBER TO FORGET.

What a short yet apt description of what we need to do to forgive. Joseph has been betrayed, hurt, forgotten and maligned. Who has better reason NOT to fogive than him?! Yet, he sees God's plan in all the unfortunate things happening to him, and waited upon the Lord. Finally, he put the pieces together and see God's plan in God's eyes.

FORGIVENESS IS RELIEF.

Forgiving is the only way of relief. Bitterness, rage, anger etc are never a way out. It not only hurts others around us, but hurt ourselves the most.

31Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. 32Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. (Ephesians 4:31-32)

Lastly, I want to end my sharing with a song's lyrics. It's called "Today"

Today, I cast my cares and pray.
Today, Lord help me see your grace.
In all my bitterness and rage,
Oh my God, may today be the day.

May I give up my pride and hear you say,
Forgive and forget, just as Jesus Christ forgave.
So let it go, my heart, let it go.

Main points:

In Verse 4,
New living Translation-
V4 -Don’t let them waste their time in endless discussion of myths and spiritual pedigrees. These things only lead to meaningless speculations,which don’t help people live a life of faith in God.

This means that, when the people devote themselves to myths and spiritual pedigrees(endless geologies), these only lead to meaningless speculations (promotes controversies).

Chinese - 当人听从荒渺无凭的话语和无穷的家谱, 这等事只生辩论）

NLT- These things do not help people live a life of faith in God.
NIV- These things do not promote god's work- which is by faith
( 这样并不发明神在信上所立的章程。)

So how do we promote God's plan? (God's plan is simply righteousness by faith) ( 怎样发明神在信上所立的章程 )?

Verse5
NLT- 5 The purpose of my instruction is that all believers would be filled with love that comes from a pure heart, a clear conscience, and genuine faith.
NIV- 5The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.

When we look at verse 5,
We'll discover that the goal of this command is love ( 命令的总归就是爱 )
In other words, we can see it as, Love is what God wants us to ultimately have. this also links back to understanding about God not wanting his people to devote themselves to myths and endless geologies- which isnt based on Love.

This love that God wants us to have comes from having a pure heart, a good conscience and a sincere faith.
这爱是从清洁的心和无亏的良心，无伪的信心生出来的。

And so with this Love,
We'll then be able to know what God favours, which is the path that is right. So, only with a love that comes from - pure heart, good conscience and sincere faith, then we would be on the right path.

Love can be used as a measurement to determine the right path, the truth and the false..

Thus, real Truth, is based on Love.

Sometimes, we should take a moment to look back at our lives. Then, we would realise that what we have gone through - no matter good or bad- was for good. And that he is always there, guiding our way.

Although life may get tougher as we all grow old, we'll have faith that God will be with us on this journey of life.

1) I'm doing kitchen and service practical these 3 weeks, I finished one week of kitchen already and tomorrow is my last day. Tomorrow will be my so called kitchen exam as well, so pray for me.
My hands are getting dry because of the weather as well as the kitchen chemicals maybe. My back is also hurting now ): arhhh. pray for me! ^^
2) I am still finding my internship and I contacted hotels in Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Macau and one in Hangzhou. I will have my interview from the hotel in Hangzhou probably next week. There are some hotels that replied me but still looking at my details. Hopefully a hotel will reply me soon and accept me! :D
3) Thank God that I'm getting quite used to the environment here, the people here are friendly and I really enjoy being with them now. However, I still miss the people in Singapore a lot a lot, including you all, Timothy fellowship! :DDD (how are you all! any new members?)
4) Thank God that I have the chance to serve Him as well. I have already agreed to be the pianist the last Sunday of March, which is 2 weeks later. I have not been touching musical instruments for quite some time, so I hope I will do fine :D
5) and lastly, i am here to say that i am coming back in june! =D hope to see all of you!

Now, a summary of the brief sharing last sunday during committee meeting.

Ivan once said that he would do a 20-min devotion every day after going for the mission trip. However, he admits that he hadn't been keeping to it, perhaps, because of work (9 to 6) every day. He claims to feel kinda indignant at that. Let's keep him in our prayers about this.

Charlie is utterly grateful that God has taken care of him whenever he's back in camp. He realises that the army days is a period when he gets to learn to be independent, read the bible more often, as well as a time to see God's mercy in him. He also shared that God has been really good to him by answering his prayer requests. He recounts a time when he had a sudden headache/migraine which was so severe that it almost induced vomitting. However, coincidentally (or rather, well-planned by God), there wasn't any activity. It was solely resting time!!! And when he recovered from his bad headache, that's when the activities started.

Lokwah tells of his ling sau（devotional life) after the mission trip. Nowadays, he wakes up really early in the morning for quiet time and devotions before he heads off for work. He has learnt to be as "READY" as those people in thailand who are always very READY despite the limited resources that they possess. Some might say that people in thailand have not much at hand and that's why they can afford to be so ready all the time. But Lokwah gave us a challenge:　to be as READY as them in spite of our hectic schedule. And this is the good attitude he has learnt to adopt and would want us to do likewise.

Kapo, talked about her first ever memorable wheelchair experience. She said that it was a huge impact on her life and a good opportunity to experience God's grace. She now has a stronger faith and trust in God rather than her own understanding. She also aims to apply whatever she's learnt from the bible into her daily life and more opportunities to learn. Besides that, she is also thankful that i) she could juggle church responsibilities and schoolwork well ii) her peers are willing to listen to her when she shares the gospel with them.

Elizabeth also wanted to wake up early to do devotions after going for the mission trip. However, she finds that she's unable to fulfil that because she would disturb her roommates if she was to wake up early int he morning to do devotions. Hence, she stills keeps to her old devotion routines. Also, she has observed that she has become more hardworking and patient after the trip. (she says she's learnt that from the thai people). On top of that, she is thankful for God plan for her and allowing her to enrol in NTU and in the course that she favours.

Melody is very grateful that other country's needs have become known and more clear to her and thus, she has diligently and consistently been praying for other countries and their needs. However, she finds that she's often busy with various kinds of work and often feel tiresome. "Her mind is willing but body is weak". Please also pray that she'll find time for devotions.

Pastor Wong thanks God that she had the chance to go back to hk after the mission trip. She is thankful that God's calling has prompted members to go for the mission trip who each have emerged a greater person having fostered a greater bond within them. Also, she is thankful that elizabeth is willing to come down and help out in Timothy. She hopes that the fellowship can bond and grow further as a whole. Please pray that the fellowship's future servings can be strengthened. And please continue to keep the church / fellowship / pastors in your prayers.

Chiangrai Mission Trip (last week's /yesterday's sharing)

HEY PEEPS!!

I apologize for the late update on last week's activity. Basically, we had the people who went for the chiangrai mission trip last dec to take turns to share those experiences with us.

Here's a brief summary:

In this mission trip, Ching Yi realises that God takes care not only of his harvest, but also his workers. For example, how He has led our member back in safety and will take care of the needs of people in the His ministry all over the world. Through this mission trip, Ching Yi realises that God's work is being done all over the world as seen in the large number of christian who have, indeed, heard and accepted Christ and also the many missionaries who are trying their best to share the gospel with others even when they are people of a different country/ race/colour.

Victoria mentioned about the 3 churches that they had visited in chiangrai and how despite how poorly built and the lack of resources, the people there worship God with all their heart and are really sincere. Which draws us to reflect on our present situation. Being so unfortunate and blessed to live in a country like singapore with no religious restrictions (i.e. not having to fear beign caught worhshipping the Lord) and how we take all these for granted. Out faith and our spiritual life might not even compare to those over there who are truly trusts and believes in our Lord with all their heart, all their strength and with all their mind.

Elizabeth and Kapo also told us about how God took care of them all over the course of the trip. Elizabeth having been sick with a fever since the first day has experienced the love of our brothers and sisters who gave her concern and showered her with love. Also, gaining her voice after laughing so hard on top of an elephant!! (this, i personally find, kinda hilarious). HAHHA!
Kapo also shares the same joy and comfort when she received indescribable care from the other members when she suffered from an asthma relapse and more embarrassingly (as she put it) had the "privilege" to sit on a wheelchair in the airport and how she even occupied ps wong's airplane seat. She also made Aunt Flora unable to buy souvenirs!!! (this, she was quite apologetic).

Lokwah and Ivan then told showed us some pictures they have taken in chiangrai and gave us quite a detailed illustration on the whole trip. They told us about the approx. percentage of people belonging to a particular clan in chiangrai. The Akka clan is the most populated with the Chinese about 30% (if i'm not wrong. Please correct this if i am). There are also 2 lovely dogs called feifei and workwork (which is blind cuz apparently, it got hit by the LPG) KUDOS to workwork. As the name implies, it's working it way through faith. Cuz after all, faith is in fact, walking without seeing. Also, they told us about this missionary family where the children have to take care of themselves when their parents went out into the mission field. So please keep them and other missionaries' children in your prayers, that they would grow up physically, mentally, spiritually healthy and be a good role model in school.

Take note, this is also a combination of yesterday mission trip sharing-cum-prayermeeting. So those who didn't go, this is the chiangrai mission trip for you. Of course, there are more to it. But all in all, Praise the Lord for his continual guidance and hope that this has become an excellent testimony to all.

As you guys might have guessed / known, there's the Mission ministry sharing thingy tmr and our fellow TIMOTHYs are going to share about their mission to Chiangrai last dec. We's hoping that everyone of you would come and support and hear about the many interesting things that happened and how God had led them safely home, with a lot to gain. Please try your best to come for it. It's the first time Timothy went for a mission trip so their experience will be extraordinarily valuable to them and us alike. (: The venue would be the main sanctuary and it starts at 7.30. But LW says to be there by 7. SOOOoOooOO... And and you should bring along some writing materials to record some of the issues that appeal to you and a heart willing to listen and internalise the message.

Hi all!

This post is actually about the Skit in our church on 7 feb , saturday night.

based on 路得记, the book of ruth, this story happened many many years ago? ( please read 路得记)

For those who missed it, here goes :

Main Characters

- God

- Naomi

- Ruth

- Orpah

- Boaz

Basically, Naomi has a husband and two sons with two daughter in laws ( Ruth and Orpah)

However, both her husband and her two sons died, living behind her, ruth and orpah. Naomi persuaded both of them to go back to their mothers home; she knewed that Orpah and Ruth would face a bleak and uncertain future if they returned to bethleham with her. so orpah went home but Ruth was determinded to go with Naomi. Ruth did the unexpected. she displayed incredible loyalty. She chose a life without husband and no propect of marriage. devoting herself to an old woman.

Naomi, spoke about God in the first few verses; 1:16-17 , 1: 20

She was conscious of his work in the universe and her life. but she misjudged him and misjudged life.

So they left for bethleham where the barley harvest was beginning.

Ruth decided to follow reapers during harvest to pick up from the ground any grains left behind.

Then, she found herself working in Boaz's field ( Boaz, influencial relative of Naomi). Coincidentally, Boaz saw Ruth at the field and noticed her. Boaz then made Ruth's life easier, also invited her t eat with harvesters and made sure she had adequate food. When she went home, the amount of barley she took home is so much more than she expected to take back. Behind what appears to be human luck lies divine purpose. The hand of God is at work even in these " accidents " in life.

Next scene :

Naomi cooks up a scheme for Ruth. ( read Ruth 3: 1-4 ) Naomi tries to answer her own prayer in Ruth 1:9 . What we can learn is that God works through human actions, we can learn from Naomi as not to wait passively for events to happen but we can pray and sieze opportunity when there is one.

- Ruth was not engaged to Boaz that night ( according to Levirate law, if a man died without a heir, his brother was to marry the widow. the first born son will be the legal heir to the deceased husband )Boaz not the closest relative, thus he had to let another man who is closer to Naomi by family ties to make the choice. Then finally, Boaz married Ruth.

- God provied bread through Ruth finding grains.

- God provided Ruth's security through her marriage to Boaz

- God provied future generations for Naomi and Ruth's ex husband.

Life can seem haphazard and accidental. But over all seeming accidents in our lives God is at work.

It's good to have followup!

Ahha! Didn't know there's already a summary of today's Devotion Sharing. so here's Part II~
A compilation of our individual ways of doing devotions.

Some suggestions about the TIME and ways to stay awake for Devotions:
1. Morning Devos, and recapping on that scripture at night before bedtime.
2. Devotions after school, after a nice shower
3. Si Yan shared that she would sing and listen to hymns for 'Jing shen' (Energy!) before Devos at night.
4. Bible study with roommates or family

and other methods learnt today:
1. Self-made schedule for prayer items and Bible reading
2. Readings from a website (dear Wendy where?)
3. using Bible with added features (CD + reading schedule)
4. Reading books.

Everyone, lets work hard and continue to improve on our ways of walking closer to God :)

hi peeps!!!!

Just a recap of what we did during fellowship today. There was a sharing session, where we discussed our individual methods of devotions. There was also some tsai dung mai going on(cracking chinese riddles). It was, overall, quite entertaining and I presume everyone enjoyed themselves. (:

I hope that everyone of us have gained a lot from the sharing today and would consider making some changes to their devotional methods so that we can all experience further spiritual growth.

Some of the better methods would be:
1. to do our devotions regularly
2. at a better timing (when we're less sleepy) eg. in the morning / afternoon.
3. do family devotions
4. do family bible studies
etc.etc..

Afterwhich, we went to Kopitiam (canteen B) for lunch...blahblahblah
Yupyup! That's about all.

Ohyeah!! Remember to bring your bibles next sunday for bible study.!!!
And all the best for the j1s who are going to their new schools tomorrow.

So... This is my design. You guys might think it's a little lame and don't really understand what it means... HAHA! Hence,,, I'm gonna try to explain it and tell me what you guys think, ok? You can comment on it. I won't mind. So no worries!!! (:

As you can see, there's a young/youthful/ cool / hip (whatever)sheep hiding behind this wall and our fellowship sign. Basically it means that this sheep is actually from timothy fellowship, and it represents all the members of our fellowship (as a whole).

This sheep is wearing sunglasses and it might be misleading because when people from outside the fellowship see it, they might think the sheep is one of those blind sheep-es who have lost their way. But then, the sheep clarifies that we really aren't blind. It's just that we're cool and all, that's why we wear sunglasses (??!!)

So this whole idea is supposedly about Timothy People having the courage to speak up to the world and that we would strive to live a life as pure as the colour of the sheep (white).

I don't know if this really makes sense. HAHA! So i'd like some feedback? (:

Happy new year to everybody! I am glad to see the stream of entries! Keep this fire going, ok? By the way, I have went to see doctor for the 3rd time last Tuesday. The doctor told me that I have a asthma relapse, the germs had entered into my lungs when I was in Chiangrai. That's why I had been feeling ill those days. She wanted me to rest frequently at home and avoid crowded places and air-conditionated ones as well. Talking about food, I will be missing my ice-cream, mango, pineapple, orange, green tea, etc till I have fully recovered. Whenever I cough I always have difficulty in breathing, maybe that's the reason I look stress to your at times... I have to use inhaler 3 to 4 times a day. Can you guys pray for my health? I will be like greatly appreciated and cheer up, yes! haha. Great to hear from you Fiona that you are like coming back for a few days! :) I hope we can meet up, we miss you lots! :) Happy Birthday to Kristina! :) Have a sweet 18th and may your faith in God will grow stronger each day (same to anybody who reads my entry! ) =D

hey everyone

haha apparently, we're having ANOTHER blog again. me not much of a blogger cos' I prefer the more traditional way of writing manually in a journal but oh wells, just gonna type in here for the heck of it. eh...I think some of you are actually in HK itself but in any case, I'm starting school soon plus I'm coming back to s'pore in Jan during cny, from 26/1 to 30/1. But the period which I'm back does not fall on a Sunday but maybe I'll get round to seeing you guys. :) miss all of ya!

technically i'm not a member anymore but i'm claiming the virgin post here :) and at an apt time too, i believe. happy new year baybehs! :D

hahah it's been mighty fun discovering that most of you are actually secret bloggers hee (myself included ! found my mouldy old blog that i completely forgot about) and also that timothy fellowship has a whole bunch of old blogs that got discontinued at one point or another... hope this one keeps on going! and going! and going! and going! and going! and going! and going! and going! and going :)
